Vadra linked to wanted arms dealer Bhandari’s aide: ED chargesheet - Times of India

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate has told a special court here that CC Thampi, who worked for a fugitive arms dealer. Sanjay Bhandariwas a close associate of Robert. VadraHusband of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi.
The claim is part of the supplementary chargesheet filed by the agency against Thampi and Sumit Chadha, who are co-accused in the money laundering case against Bhandari. The latter is engaged in a serious battle to resist his extradition from the UK, where he has been detained based on a complaint by Indian authorities.

“Investigation has revealed that CC Thampi is a close associate of Robert Vadra, who not only renovated the property at 12 Bryanston Square, London through Sumit Chadha but also resided at the same place. Besides, Vadra and CC Thampi had bought a huge piece of land in Faridabad and entered into financial transactions with each other,” the ED said, revealing some details of the chargesheet.
While India is fighting the extradition case against Bhandari, who was named in arms deals during the UPA regime, in the UK where he fled after 2016, UAE-based N. RI Thampi was arrested by ED in January 2020. He has links with fugitive arms dealers. Thampi is accused of being involved in the acquisition of properties in London and the UAE from payments allegedly received from several defense deals signed during the UPA regime.
The ED claimed that during interrogation, Thampi had told the agency that PP Madhavan, Sonia Gandhi’s personal assistant, had introduced him to Vadra.
Vadra, who has been questioned by the ED at least a dozen times in various money laundering cases, including alleged properties in London, has always denied any links with Bhandari and any wrongdoing. What is it. He termed the ED inquiry as mere “political witchcraft” aimed at hounding and harassing him to serve a political agenda.

The ED alleged that Thampi acted as a front for several shell entities run in Dubai, which eventually became the owners of properties acquired abroad.
“Sanjay Bhandari had a number of undisclosed foreign income and assets, including properties at No. 12 Bryanston Square, London, and 6 Grosvenor Hill Court, London. These assets are proceeds of crime. CC Thampi and Sumit Chadha have been found involved in concealing and using these proceeds of crime,” the ED said in the supplementary chargesheet.
The first charge sheet in the case was filed against Bhandari in May 2020 after the court declared him an ad lib offender and issued a non-bailable warrant against him. The ED had then sought the court’s permission to question Vadra about his links with the arms dealer.
The agency has so far seized property worth Rs 27 crore in the case belonging to Bhandari, who has appealed in the UK High Court against the extradition order to India in a case filed by the ED.
