The move comes in the wake of allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, and the ministry has expressed concern over the arbitrary actions of the new WFI president.
“The actions taken by the new president are completely arbitrary,” the ministry’s statement said, suggesting that the new board “appears to be under the complete control of former officials.”
The suspension raises uncertainty about the federation’s standing with United World Wrestling, the international governing body, which previously suspended the WFI. The selection of Sanjay Singh was seen as a possible way to resolve the suspension.
Sexual harassment allegations against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh sparked protests and calls for his dismissal. Indian wrestler earlier this year.
