Pune techie complains to Canada-based accessory brand, gets the reply: "Your name is basically ..." - Times of India

Debrand, a Canadian company known for its electronic device accessories, sparked outrage online after its response to an Indian consumer’s complaint. Bhavan Chitrash, a software engineer from Pune who is currently working in Utrecht, Netherlands, took to social media (platform unspecified) to express his displeasure over a MacBook skin he bought from Debrand. “@dbrand bought this skin a few months back. Only 2 months later the same color couldn’t stay. What should I do? #dbrandcomplaint,” Chatrunsh wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

However, DeBrand’s response to the complaint was widely criticized for being disrespectful and insensitive. “Your last name is basically a piece of shit, get serious,” DeBrand responded to the complaint post.
Social media users condemned Dbrand’s behavior, accusing them of racism and unprofessional customer service. Many pointed out the inappropriateness of mocking the customer’s name, especially considering the large potential market Dbrand could alienate.
Facing mounting criticism and backlash on social media, Dbrand eventually issued an apology. In the apology, Bbrand acknowledged its mistake as a “huge mistake”. He apologetically offered Chatrunsh $10,000 in compensation “as a gesture of goodwill”.
