Data provided by the NHAI, in a written reply to a query raised in RS, shows that the maximum amount of Rs 27,568 crore has been disbursed to landowners in Maharashtra, followed by UP (23,134 crore) and Kerala ( 22,119 crores) NHAI. States have been urged to contribute towards the cost of land acquisition to take up more projects.
Land acquisition costs, on an average, account for about 20% of the total cost of highway projects – higher in the case of expressways.
