Mohammed bin Salman meets Pak PM in Saudi, urges India-Pak talks to resolve Kashmir issue - Times of India

not for the first time, Saudi Arabia He stressed the importance of dialogue between Islamabad and New Delhi to resolve “remaining issues”, especially Kashmir. This was stated in a joint statement issued a day later. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the Saudi de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held an official meeting on April 7 at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah.
“Both sides stressed the importance of dialogue between Pakistan and India to resolve outstanding issues between the two countries, particularly the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, to ensure peace and stability in the region.” Riyadh-Islamabad have used similar phrases in the past: a joint statement in 2021 maintained that the Jammu and Kashmir issue must be resolved bilaterally by India and Pakistan;
New Delhi has long held that Kashmir is a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan and there is no question of third-party mediation or intervention. Relations between the two countries soured after India abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution on August 5, 2019, abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and split the state into two Union Territories.
India’s decision drew a strong reaction from Pakistan, which cut diplomatic ties and expelled the Indian ambassador. India has repeatedly told Pakistan that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is and always will be” an integral part of the country. India has said that it wants normal neighborly relations with Pakistan in an environment free from terrorism, hostility and violence.
MBS and Sharif also discussed accelerating a planned $5 billion investment package, which cash-strapped Pakistan desperately needs to reduce its current account deficit.
