Pune: Arizona Grand Canyon Skywalk Ready to get closer to home.
The state government’s high-powered committee has approved PMRDA’s plans for a glass skywalk in Lonavala.
“To be built along the lines of the one in Arizona’s Grand Canyon, the Skywalk will connect the famous Lion’s Point. Tiger Point It is expected to cost Rs 333.57 crore at the hill station,” a senior official of Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) said.
Built in 2007, the Grand Canyon Skywalk in Arizona gives visitors the feeling of walking on air. 4,000 feet above the Grand Canyon, the Skywalk is a horseshoe-shaped glass walkway.
According to the current plan, the project will be ready in two and a half years, the official said.
“Work on it is expected to start in March next year. The project is expected to be completed by June 2026,” the official said.
PMRDA officials said that while PMRDA will be the implementing authority for the project, the state tourism department will fund it.
“A high-powered committee approved the proposal last week. The committee included the chief secretary, heads of the planning and finance departments, and officers of the tourism department,” the official said.
PMRDA Chief Engineer Ashok Bhalkar, who prepared the proposal for the skywalk, confirmed that the glass skywalk proposed in Lonavala will be on the pattern of the Grand Canyon Skywalk.
“Tenders will be issued to local and international bidders,” he said.
The entire development will be done in Kurwande village of Lonavala, which falls under PMRDA limits.


“The entire project will spread over an area of ​​15 hectares. It will include a 90-metre long and 6-metre wide bridge connecting Lion Point to Tiger Point. There will also be a 125-metre long and 6-metre wide glass skywalk. The project will promote adventure sports like zip lining and bungee jumping besides skywalks.
A food park, ample parking facilities and an amphitheater with a seating capacity of 1,000 spectators are part of the project.
“The project will also include light shows and other attractive activities. The timeline for the completion of the project is set within three years, which reflects concerted efforts to accelerate the development of these popular destinations,” the official said. said
As infrastructure takes shape, Lonavala is poised to emerge as a tourist destination, offering a blend of scenic beauty and adrenaline-pumping experiences.
He said that introduction of Lonavala Glass Skywalk will be a strategic move to attract tourists to the place. “Known for its picturesque surroundings and proximity to major urban centers like Mumbai and Pune, Lonavala is the ideal location for this move,” the official added.
