In a meeting held in the national capital on Tuesday, opposition parties agreed that some out-of-the-box ideas are needed to take on the BJP in the 2024 general elections.
One of the ideas discussed was to field a united opposition candidate to contest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi, sources said.
The temple city has been a BJP stronghold for the past three decades, with the party winning only one Lok Sabha election from Varanasi since 1991.
Earlier this month, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had announced that he would hold a rally in Varanasi. However, the rally was canceled due to lack of permission.
