 India registers 628 new Covid cases, 1 death in 24 hours | India News - Times of India

New Delhi: A total of 63 JN.1 Covid-19 cases have been reported in the country till December 24, health ministry sources said on Monday. Maximum 34 cases of the new subtype have been confirmed from Goa, followed by Maharashtra (9), Karnataka (8), Kerala (6), Tamil Nadu (4) and Telangana (2).
Virologists say JN.1 is slowly spreading across the states and is likely to take over. XBB India is set to become the largest strain of the coronavirus that causes Covid-19. On Monday, authorities reported 628 new Covid-19 cases and one death in 24 hours.

NITI Aayog member Dr VK Paul had last week said that the scientific community is closely investigating the new Covid subtype and stressed the need for states to speed up testing. In the country detected, there is no immediate cause for concern as 92 per cent of those affected are opting for treatment at home, indicating a mild disease,” officials said.
