New Delhi: On the opening day of the first Test Kagiso Rabada. Showing his mettle, he grabbed four crucial wickets in the second session, derailing India and restricting them to 176 for seven at tea.
His effective bowling wiped out the dismissals. Shreyas Iyer (31) Virat Kohli (38), Ravichandran Ashwin (8), and Shardul Thakur (24) in the post-lunch phase, which witnessed the completion of 50 overs.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul (39 not out) and Thakur put on a 43-run partnership for the seventh wicket.
India faced a difficult situation early on and reached 91 for three against South Africa by lunchtime. Despite the early struggles, Kohli and Iyer managed to stabilize the innings with an unbeaten 67-run partnership for the fourth wicket. However, their partnership was disrupted after the interval when Rabada made his effective intervention.
Additionally, left-arm fast bowler Nandre Berger (2/39) showed his menace in the field on his Test debut.
The start of the match was delayed due to a wet patch on the outfield.
In the absence of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, India introduced pacer Parsed Krishna for his Test debut. Their aim is to win the first Test series in South Africa.
