‘I would choose Sourav Ganguly…’: Parthiv Patel on why he has a soft corner for the former India captain – Times of India


New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer… Parthiv Patel Expressed his constant appreciation for Sourav GangulyFormer president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the selection of captain over eminent players Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Patel, who made his debut for India in 2002 at the age of 17, played 15 Tests and 10 ODIs under Ganguly’s captaincy between 2002 and 2004.
Speaking at the 6th Advancement in Endocrinology Conference at the Forum Convention Centre, Patel spoke about his preferences and said, “I would definitely choose Sourav Ganguly as my captain even today. We have had many successful captains – Dhoni. , Virat KohliEveryone but I would still choose Sauro. I think he had time for everyone. All others have been excellent captains too. But I would still choose him.”
Ganguly was known for his ability to back his players, a trait that left a lasting impression on Patel. Despite acknowledging the greatness of captains like Dhoni and Kohli, Patel emphasized a soft spot for Ganguly as his first captain.

Patel added, “Of course, Dhoni is great. There’s no doubt about that. But when you have a first captain, you always have a soft spot for him. And that’s exactly what I have.”
Parthiv Patel achieved success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by winning the title with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2010. He later joined Mumbai Indians in 2015 and 2017, playing a key role in their victories.
Reflecting on his experiences, Patel also spoke about the difference in style between Delhi batsmen Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli. He noted that both players are polite, but Kohli’s style, on and off the field, is a bit more aggressive.
“On the ground and off the ground, Virat is very humble. Gautham is also very humble. But we all love Virat Kohli. The way he celebrates and does things. He would have inspired a lot of them. I have played a lot of cricket with him. Gautham, but I would say Virat is a bit more aggressive,” concluded Parthiv Patel.
