Hardik Pandya on track for Afghanistan T20Is and IPL | Cricket News - Times of India

Mumbai: Indian all-rounder and new captain of Mumbai Indians Hardik Pandya Has recovered from an ankle injury and is likely to lead India in the three matches. T20I series at home against Afghanistan from January 11 and will also play in the next season’s IPL, reliable sources told TOI.
“He has fully recovered from his ankle injury. He is training every day,” a source close to the development said on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, there were reports that Pandya might be out of action for the next few months due to injury, possibly from IPL-2024 as well. Mumbai Indians recently controversially appointed Pandya as their captain after trading him from Gujarat Titans for Rs 15 crore in the trading window.
Hardik suffered an ankle injury during India’s 2023 ODI World Cup league match against Bangladesh in Pune in November and was subsequently ruled out of the rest of the World Cup and the subsequent tour of South Africa.
However, he “should definitely be fit for the IPL, and possibly the Afghanistan T20I,” the source said. Hardik is fit and well. In fact, he is exercising daily. All the talk about him missing the IPL is just rumours. IPL 2024 is still almost four months away, so anything at this point is mere speculation.
Pandya recently posted two videos on Instagram, in one of which he can be seen working out at the gym and in the other, playing with his son Agastya. BCCI sources also said, “He will get fit soon and play in the IPL.”
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Women’s Premier League auction here on December 9, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah He had said that Pandya could possibly return to international cricket during the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan at home.
“We are monitoring him (Pandya’s fitness) on a daily basis. He is only in the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He is working very hard and we will let you know in due course when he is fit. He may be fit even before the Afghanistan series,” Shah had said.

Meanwhile, Suriya Kumar Yadav is also set to miss the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, starting January 11, due to an ankle injury sustained during the last T20I of the recently held series in South Africa. are ready
