Sources say that the master plan of the SVP Sports Enclave has been made keeping in mind the requirements of organizing Olympics events. The enclave is likely to play an important role in India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympics.
In October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India’s bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympics and the 2030 Summer Youth Olympics.
“The SVP Enclave will be a cornerstone in making India a global sports hub. The enclave is one of its kind and at par with the world standard,” said a source.
The enclave will not only have various competition venues but also training facilities for various sports. In 2021, Oda had completed a sports infrastructure gap review in the state with a vision of hosting future editions of the Olympics.
“As per the master plan, the enclave will have five new venues in an integrated 350-acre area along the Sabarmati riverfront, in addition to the existing Narendra Modi Stadium,” the source added.
These venues will include a 50,000-capacity football stadium, two indoor arenas with a capacity of 18,000 and 10,000 each, an aquatics center with a capacity of 12,000, and a 10,000-capacity tennis center.
In addition, adequate space has been provided to create a vibrant riverfront and develop temporary spaces for future needs.
The Master Plan seeks to improve general connectivity and access to the greater area to ensure long-term community benefit.
The venues are designed to allow not only the hosting of sporting events but can also host a variety of entertainment and business events.
Seating has been planned to be flexible to allow for different capacities according to needs. “Gujarat Olympic Planning and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (GOLYMPIC) has started the detailed design and implementation process with plans to start construction of the enclave by October 2024 and is expected to be completed by October 2027”.
