CHENNAI: Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni, who underwent a successful left knee surgery earlier this year, is likely to be back in the nets in the next 10 days, the CEO said. KS Viswanathan on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion of unveiling the trophy and jersey of the Junior Super Kings Inter-Schools T20 tournament, Viswanathan gave an update on Dhoni’s recovery. “He’s doing fine now. He’s started his rehab. He’s been working out in the gym. And, maybe in another 10 days, he’ll start working out in the nets.”

Viswanathan said that the CSK team will hold its pre-season camp from the first week of March. “The IPL season is likely to start from March 22, so we are planning to hold the first camp in Chennai by the first week of March,” Viswanathan said.

Next year’s IPL will coincide with the Lok Sabha elections and when Viswanathan was asked if there were any plans for a split schedule, he replied: “I don’t know. They (BCCI) told us. Didn’t say anything about distribution schedule. What they have said is that we should be ready to play IPL in India, that’s what we heard from them during the auction.
In the recently concluded IPL 2024 Auction, CSK covered most of their bases and recruited six new players, with World Cup hero Daryl Mitchell topping the list. Viswanathan felt that he had won the auction.
“I would say we have achieved all our targets. Obviously, we were planning for Mitchell. We also thought that (medium pacer) Mustafizur Rahman with side boundaries on our Chepauk wicket. It would be a good bet. These were our ideas, but we weren’t sure if we would be able to achieve them. Fortunately, it turned out to be a good auction for us this time.

CSK spending Rs 8.4 crore for an uncapped player – Sameer Rizvi – raised some eyebrows. The 20-year-old batsman from Uttar Pradesh became one of the biggest buyers at the auction. Viswanathan said CSK is trying to build a young team that will help them in the long run.
“Rizvi was a target for a lot of franchises. We were probably a bit lucky to get Rizvi. Basically, if you look at it, we are trying to get a replacement for Ambati Rayudu. According to us, we have that type. There were no players with experience to bid for any of them. So, we thought it was better to go for a youngster who has promise. I’m not just saying that because we He has been picked, but he is going to be the next best. Last year we got Sheikh Rasheed, Nishant Sindhu and Rajvardhan Hungergakar. So, we are trying to build a team for the future as well,” explained Viswanathan.
