Ex-IRS officer gets 7 year jail for taking bribe | Chennai News - Times of India

CHENNAI: A former… Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer was sentenced to seven years imprisonment by a special judge CBI Court in Chennai, after being found guilty of corruption and accepting bribes from recruitment agents. IRS officer, R. Sekarwas accused of accepting bribes to clear migration certificates between 2007 and 2009, when he held the post of Protector of Refugees (PoE).

The court also sentenced Anwar HussainRecruiting agent sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment. The CBI had arrested Sekar and Hussain for accepting bribes in the form of “speed money” from various recruitment agents to clear the immigration certificates submitted by them. Hussain collected the money and handed it over to Sikar and other government employees. During the investigation, it was found that Sekar had given Rs 13 lakh to a person to get his son admitted in an engineering college. The money was withdrawn.
