New Delhi: The Ministry of Defense on Wednesday signed an 1,614 crore contract with Mazagon Dockyard Shipbuilders Ltd. of the of procurement Out of six Next generation offshore patrol vessels For Indian Coast Guard (ICG).
The contract was awarded under the Purchase (Indian-IDDM) category. Of the six vessels to be purchased, four will replace existing aging OPVs and the other two will add to the ICG fleet.
The acquisition of these major ICG platforms is intended to enhance the ICG’s capacity and reinforce the Centre’s growing focus on maritime security.
These modern and high-tech vessels will play a vital role in enhancing surveillance, law enforcement, search and rescue, marine pollution response and humanitarian assistance by the ICG, among other important capabilities, a ministry statement said. will
With several high-tech advanced features and equipment, the 115m OPVS will be equipped with multi-purpose drones, AI capability, and wirelessly controlled remote water rescue craft lifebuoys, etc. to enable the ICG to face the multi-faceted challenges of the new era. enabling greater flexibility and operational edge. .
The state-of-the-art vessels will be designed, developed and manufactured locally by MDL, Mumbai, and will be delivered within 6 years.
