City Sindhi poet Asudani is 2023 Sahitya Akademi award winner | Nagpur News - Times of India

Nagpur: Renowned Sindhi poet of Nagpur overjoyed to receive Sahitya Akademi award Vinod Aswadani said on Wednesday that he was delighted to become the first visually impaired writer in any language to be honored with the prestigious literary award. He was given this award for his collection of Sindhi Ghazals.Hathu Pakadjai’.
A resident of Jaripatka, Aswadani is Professor of English at Shri Ramdev Baba College of Engineering and Management. Aswadani is known for his contribution to the promotion of Sindhi language as a writer, psychotherapist, orator and social activist.
Asudani said that this is the first time that a Sindhi writer from Nagpur has been selected for this honour.
Vinod Aswadani expressed happiness that even the literary works of particularly difficult people are getting national recognition. His award-winning work is a collection of 90 ghazals. Asudani said that one of the ghazals was also called ‘Hathu Pakadjai’. He said that ‘Hathu Pakadjai’ was published by Narendra Prakashan in 2021. Vinod Aswadani is not only an accomplished poet but also holds doctorates in English and Psychology.
The University of South America has awarded him a D.Litt for his contribution to social work. He published 37 books in three languages ​​Sindhi, Hindi and English. Of these, 18 books have been translated from Sindhi to English, including five Sahitya Akademi award-winning books. He undertook translations to take classical regional works of literature to the international level. Fluent in Hindi, Marathi, Sindhi and English, he has eight collections of ghazals – five in Sindhi, two in Hindi, and one on English poetry. Born visually impaired, Aswadani made a mark in the academic field with excellence by topping the merit list in 10th, 12th and BA. While doing his MA in English, History and Sociology, he won a gold medal. He has also received the prestigious title of ‘Pandit’ in Hindi literature. His name is included in the International Dictionary of Intellectuals published by Cambridge University.
