Brij Bhushan loyalist Sanjay Singh elected as president of Wrestling Federation of India - Times of India

New Delhi: Sanjay Singh A new president has been elected. Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), his panel won most of the posts in Thursday’s delayed election.
Sanjay, who is the Vice President of UP Wrestling Associationgot 40 votes compared to seven votes of his rival Anita Shevran. The CWG gold medalist panel managed to win the post of Secretary General, Premchand Lochab defeating Darshan Lal.
The election result is a disappointment for top wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sakshi Malik, who have been pushing for a change in leadership.
He blamed the outgoing chief Brij Bhushan Accused of sexually harassing female wrestlers, his efforts to gather support failed when his planned march was broken up by the Delhi Police.
Sanjay Singh, who is closely related to Brij Bhushan and is associated with the RSS, is expected to consult him in making policy decisions. This move marks Brij Bhushan’s continued influence in the game.
Additionally, the election of a new Executive Council is set to pave the way for the lifting of the ban imposed by United World Wrestling (UWW) on the WFI.
The UWW had banned the WFI for not holding elections on time, resulting in Indian wrestlers competing as neutral athletes in the 2023 World Championships. The election process was delayed due to court cases but has now been given the green light by the Supreme Court, allowing the formation of a new WFI governing body.
The development brings hope for Indian wrestling, as it signals a possible lifting of the ban and the resumption of Indian wrestlers participating under their national flag.

The world wrestling body suspended the Wrestling Federation of India for failing in the elections.
