Patna: In an effort to reduce air pollution and promote environment-friendly transport, the state Department of Transport Decided to add 400 more. Electric buses In the existing fleet of 25 such vehicles by next year.


According to sources, the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation Limited (BSRTC) has started the bidding process after the state cabinet approved the proposal to procure more e-buses. The new buses will run on different routes of five cities Patna, Bhagalapur, Gaya. , Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Purnia. Transport Department Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said that 150 buses will ply on various routes in Patna and 50 buses in other four cities. According to him, some buses will be connected to neighboring districts.
He added, “We will increase the number of e-buses on every route in Patna to curb pollution levels. BSRTC will operate the buses and they will be maintained by the selected firm.” “

The air-conditioned e-buses will have amenities like speed governor, panic button, VLTS, GPS tracking, music system, CCTV cameras and USB charging points for the convenience of passengers. E-buses can cover a distance of 250 km after a full recharge.
The state government has already banned diesel-powered city buses in the Patna municipal area to curb air pollution. BSRTC is currently operating CNG 166 in Patna.
