Bihar: Grandparents kill baby girl for want of a boy | Patna News - Times of India

Patna: Even in the 21st century, some people still prefer a son to a daughter. They even go to extreme lengths to desire a son. One such incident has come to light from Muzaffarpur district where a woman allegedly strangled her two-month-old granddaughter to death because she wanted a grandson from her daughter-in-law. However, the elderly woman and her husband were arrested, police said on Wednesday.
With the help of her husband and other family members, she not only killed the infant but also buried his body in a deserted place about half a kilometer from their house. SHO Alok Kumar said.
“The victim was the daughter of Ashok Ojha’s son Dhiraj Ojha. Dhiraj was married to Komal Kumari from Jajwar in Katra. The family wanted a son as the first child, but Komal gave birth to a daughter in two months. “Earlier, when the child was not found after a continuous search by its mother, she informed her family and filed a complaint at the police station,” said Alok.
According to the complaint, Komal’s mother-in-law Saroj Devi and father-in-law Ashok were harassing her for dowry since marriage.
