New Delhi: The list of invitees for the January 22 inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya took a new turn on Tuesday. Vishwa Hindu Parishad Stating that BJP veteran L.K Advani And Murali Manohar Joshi was invited for the inauguration.
The statement came a day after the Ram Temple Trust informed the media that ex-servicemen were requested not to participate due to their age and extreme cold, drawing criticism from several quarters. VHP International Working President Alok Kumar said Advani (96) and Joshi (89) were invited to attend the consecration on January 22. Umar, was requested not to come, which he accepted.
Issuing a statement, Kumar said, “Honorable Lal Krishna Advaniji and Hon’ble Murali Manohar Joshiji were invited, Ram Mandir Tehreek, to participate in the ‘Pran Pratshan’ program at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22. Both elders said that they would try their best to come.
Advani and Joshi were at the forefront of the temple movement. Before his arrest in Bihar in 1990, Advani, a former deputy prime minister, led a Rath Yatra from Somnath to Ayodhya. It passed through hundreds of cities and traveled about 300 km a day in support of the Janmabhoomi movement, led by the VHP and its affiliates in the Sangh Parivar.
Among veteran politicians, former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, 90, was invited, Roy said.
