BHOPAL: A controversy then erupted on Tuesday Congress It was noticed – albeit about six months later – that the portrait of Jawaharlal Nehru was removed from the wall behind the speaker’s chair in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly and replaced by a portrait of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.
On the other side of the wall is a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi. The Assembly administration says that Nehru’s portrait was moved to another hall about six months ago.
During the proceedings of the House in the last two days, there was no word of protest from the Congress MLAs until the change was highlighted by a section of the media on Tuesday.
to be retired PCC President Kamal Nath, who has been absent from the house for the past two days, tweeted: “Removing the portrait of a great freedom fighter, India’s first Prime Minister, architect of modern India, from the Assembly is highly condemnable. Dr. Bhim.” Welcomes Rao Ambedkar’s portrait. Baba Sahib’s portrait could have been placed at a prominent place in the assembly but Pandit Nehru’s portrait was deliberately removed.
Nath said that he has announced to install the tallest statue of Ambedkar in Madhya Pradesh.
