Chandigarh: Haryana interior Minister Anil Vij told the state assembly on Monday that there have been 24. Complaints of sexual harassment by Sportswomen From 2019 in the state. Vij was responding to a question by INLDMLA Abhay Singh Chautala, who had sought a debate on the harassment of women sportspersons in Haryana. Six of the 24 complaints were either withdrawn or cancelled, Vij said.
These complaints are filed against coaches, players and officials. While five cases were registered in 2019, two in 2020, six in 2021, three in 2022 and eight this year. Four accused were acquitted as the prosecution failed to prove the allegation of sexual harassment in court, while 14 cases are still on trial.
Referring to the Sandeep Singh case, Vij said the incident is being investigated by the Chandigarh police and the case is proceeding in court.
The cases involved a taekwondo player, who in 2019 accused his wrestling coach of sexually harassing him in Gurugram. However, the complainant’s father died in the meantime and the prosecution failed to prove the charges. Similarly, a wrestler filed a complaint against his fellow wrestler and coach’s son at the Women’s Police Station in Rohtak in 2019. However, he later withdrew his complaint.
The cases being heard include a complaint filed by a hockey player against a coach at the women’s police station in Kurukshetra and a complaint filed by a wrestler against his coach in Sonepat in November 2022. had gone The coaches were arrested in both these incidents.
