AHMEDABAD: The number of start-ups recognized by the Department of Industrial Promotion and Internal Trade (DPIIT) with at least one woman director rose from 348 between 2020 and 2022, data presented in the Lok Sabha on Monday indicated. 933 increased to 168 percent.

Satya Ranjan Acharya, CEO of Cradle, an EDII incubator, said, “The sector where women-led startups are emerging is also diversifying. We are looking at startups in the education and textile sectors as the main ones. Looking for technology and drones.”
However, experts cautioned against pigeonholing the trend.
“The number is certainly increasing, but one must also look at how they are surviving, whether female cofounders are just an inclusion exercise or do they get to call the shots, and most importantly, whether investors trusting them,” said the co-founder.
